Others At SEMA Automotive Show
We mentioned last time how SEMA- the Specialty Equipment Market Association show can be one of the most interesting shows on the circuit. Both OEM and aftermarket vendors get to show off the customization potential of popular vehicles. We already covered Toyota’s customized vehicles appearing at the show, here are some of the best that others are bringing with them this year.
Chevy is sending five vehicles to SEMA this year. For the most part, they’ve left the engines alone and have focused on customizable options and appearance. The Sonic Accessories Concept is tricked out with striping, white headlamp and tail light rings, 17-inch aluminum wheels and a lowered ride thanks to a performance suspension kit. Another Sonic, the Chevrolet Sonic Performance Concept would be really fun if it ever came to life, thanks to a track-tuned suspension. The Chevrolet Impala Blackout is, well, blacked out with black trim and accessories both inside and out. The Chevrolet Cruze RS Plus Concept is even sportier than the RS model thanks to a unique paint scheme, rear spoiler and lower body moldings matched with a contrasting Jet Black interior. We were hoping that the Chevrolet SS Sport Concept would get an engine upgrade to bring it into Hellcat territory, but instead it got a day at the spa, with aesthetics intended to “reflect it’s performance capability.”
Fiat-Chrysler is sending more than a dozen vehicles to SEMA, each given the Mopar aftermarket treatment. The Dodge Charger R/T Mopar Concept is more than just a pretty face, it’s had power added to it’s already strong 5.7-litre Hemi. Other vehicles include a Frozen-themed Jeep Renegade Frostbite, a slightly meaner Dodge Dart R/T Concept, a surprisingly cool looking Fiat 500 Abarth Scorpion, a Ram 2500 Outdoorsman that is a hunter’s dream vehicle, the Dodge Challenger T/A Concept which is a Challenger mated with a Trans Am, a performance-oriented Chrysler 200S Mopar, a lighter Dodge Viper ACR Concept, the Jeep Renegade Riptide which is geared to surfers, and a prettied up Fiat 500L Custom.
Ford is bringing several new editions of the 2015 Expedition, including the Tjin Edition 2015 Ford Expedition with giant wheels, lowered suspension and tuned for extra power, along with an aesthetics package sure to impress any tuner kid. The DUB Expedition is an entertainment junkie’s dream, filled with monitors for surfing or playing video games. The Vaccar Expedition XLT is a rolling lodge for skiers, completely outfitted for snowy conditions.
Variations of the Transit van include the Designed Travel 2015 Ford Transit- a long-distance road trip version including a 50 inch flat-screen tv and an off-road version. Taking things upscale, Ford is bringing a luxurious VIP special edition customized by Detroit Custom Coach, which seems more like a limousine or Town Car complete with a bar, than a van that can be purposed as a work truck.
