Hot New Exhaust Pipes

Hot New Exhaust Pipes

Few of us pay much attention to our exhaust systems, except to grumble at the expense when they need to be replaced. They do serve an important purpose on our vehicles, but some designers have managed to use tailpipe design to complement a vehicle’s aesthetics, or even to become a focal point, much like the grille or profile. Some even find exhaust pipes to be one of the better looking features of a vehicle, with an allure all their own.

The top pipes of the 918 Porsche Spider are considered some of the best around. Unlike most tailpipes, these ones are mounted right above the engine of this supercar, behind the driver’s ears. Porsche engineers say that this keeps hot gasses away from the engine by using the shortest route possible, but fans love the look more than the purpose.

The redesigned 2015 Dodge Viper comes with hot new exhaust pipes, directing hot emissions out through the side of the car. Definitely subtle, and kind of cool too.

The quad pipes on the 2015 Lexus RC F are getting people excited, because it’s unusual to find them on a car that is in a reasonable price range.

Also with quad pipes is the 2015 Nissan Nismo GT-R. These ones are interesting because instead of four separate circles, the duo on each side is contained in a single, split oval, making the car appear more like a race car than a street car.

As the Alfa Romeo makes it’s long awaited return to the North American market, it brings European flair with it. On the 2015 Alfa Romeo 4C, the dual exhaust pipes on either side of it’s bumper have two concentric circles, a look that hasn’t been seen in a long time.

2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 fans love it’s centre-mounted quad pipes- that’s all four lined up in a row right below the flags.

On the 2014 Jaguar F-Type R V-8, the two straight pipes on either side of the car’s rear offer a vintage touch on a futuristic-looking car.

Finally, believe it or not, fans of fancy tail pipes even appreciate the 2015 Hyundai Veloster Turbo. It’s centre-mounted exhaust pipe makes the affordable sporty car stand out from it’s rivals.
